So this was pretty interesting. I liked the way this rolled out. Dude who’s a zero get’s an awesome power and has to figure out what he’s going to do with it. I like the way that he learned really quickly about the whole “with great power” thingy. He literally had an Uncle Ben moment in this book. Now that’s not to say that he’s Spider-man wholesome. He has his own demons, but he is two things, hard working and kind at heart. I think that’s what makes it a good story. He’s the type of person who really could rule the world, but stops and thinks about what he’s doing and the potential side effects it could have. I DO like the fact that he can think on his feet. If you look at my highlight’s you’ll see what I mean. I liked this book a lot and look forward to the next one in the series once it comes out!

Level up or Die!

Level Up or Die! (Underworld #1)Level Up or Die! by Apollos Thorne

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can say that I like where this is going. The MC isn’t a doof and actually has his mess together. Group of kids from various places on earth were selected to play in an IRL VR game….It’s not actually a game though…I mean it could be if EA made it, but I digress. These groups of kids are snatched up from their homes into a real life dungeon and are forced to play in a dungeon where death is permanent. This is a classic LitRPG in the sense that the players (slaves) are able to level up and set their stats as they see fit to beat the game (or figure out a way to escape.) The succubus in this doesn’t act like an actual succubus does. If anything she’s tired of doing things the old way, hence the dungeon. With that said, the plot isn’t something that’s new, but it is a refreshing view on a tried and true genre. If you like LitRPG’s with a MC that isn’t super smart, but lacks all common sense. This is a pretty good one. The only issue I have is that the characters come off a little flat.

I’m getting the whole damn series. I like how this started. It was interesting to see how both of them existed and now I’m fully intrigued. Both of the MC’s had an interaction with Yokai and it changed both of them for better or worse.

Cruncyroll’s server problems

•January 7, 2018 • Leave a Comment

I’m a huge fan of anime. I’m also a huge fan of paying for said anime because let’s be real, if we don’t, then they wont keep coming out with more seasons of our favorite anime. With that all said, Crunchyroll is starting to get on my damn nerves. I have paid for a subscription for a couple of years now to help support the industry. I understand that servers and the like cost money and at the end of the day, they are like any other business, in it to make money. However, in order to stay in business, you need to make sure that you are able to support the demand for your product or someone else will come along and take away your customers. Now, I know that you’re wondering, “ok, where in the hell is DJay going with this?”  Let me explain. Yet again, Crunchyroll’s servers were down due to high demand. This does not happen all the time, but I can say that within the last year or so, it’s happened enough to be noticeable. Especially when an epic episode of DragonBall was on.  The reason, I’m bringing this up is because this tends to happen at the worst time…..on the weekends which also happen to coincide with releases for DragonBall. Even if I’m not trying to watch DB, I’m stuck with the whole down server issue until people stop trying to watch.  For a subscription that I pay for, this is unacceptable. Netflix has a much larger presence and doesn’t seem to have this issue as often as CR does, and when they do, they at least try and fix the problem. CR on the other hand tries to sell you something while they are fixing the issue. One would think that since they were swallowed into VRV that this would be a non issue, but yet. Here we are.

I don’t know. Maybe I’m placing my expectations too high for Crunchyroll. But I tell you this, if they don’t get their act together, I’m leaving them and will prob go back to bootlegging whatever doesn’t come on Netflix or Amazon.   Sigh, with the way they do things, it might come to that….I’m STILL waiting on them to upgrade from flash to HTML5 video like they said they were going to do…..back in JANUARY 2017.

I really wanted to like this, but the MC is so damn selfish by the end of the book I actually wanted him to lose. I wanted him to lose bad. I loved the story and all, but the MC is such a dick. I don’t really see myself continuing this. He’s turned into such a kid in the “woe is me, I have to save all these people, all I want is a normal life, I never asked for this, I just want to live alone for everyone!” He quite literally complains the ENTIRE book about how he doesn’t want to do anything, but once he finds out by NOT doing anything bad things will happen, and then complains about having to do all the stuff he didn’t want to do while being the only damn person who can do it. It really got on my damn nerves. Seriously. I really was hoping that he would lose, or someone close to him would die as a result of his selfishness. And he’s a real jerk to one of the characters despite how much he’s trying to be friends with him, but he’s not a jerk to the person who set him up to be killed just because they are female. I’ve never gone from rooting for someone to hoping for their bloody demise so fast, but yeah, this is it for me. I’m done with this series.

This is an interesting manga. There’s a meltdown and people are forced to evauate the area due to radiation, but there are 3 girls who were created (born?) that can survive through the radiation and go around helping people. It’s a slow start, but it’s still a solid manga.
